When you look into another’s eyes, what do you see? Can you linger on them, and gaze intently, or do you move away in fear at what you might discover about yourself?

The eyes have long been herald as the gateway to the soul, and the same is true for all life forms. And it is rare to glimpse a hint of truth in the everyday. Looking directly into the eyes is something for which we have had little preparation, and when we begin to see something deeper, we run and hide.

But take a moment now to look into the eyes of an animal, perhaps a pet you own, and look past the superficial image you have always known. Patiently, there is within a humble animal, so small, the ability to radiate such love at call. Fill your heart with joy and beam across at it with your own eyes, wide and full of life. You will be sure to thus receive from it in turn a love you’d never knew it was capable of showing, beyond even the love it had displayed up until that moment, unconditional all the same.

Now take this trial one step further, and do the same with someone close, and then take to a mirror and discover for yourself that you are overflowing with such love you never knew, and little room is there to be had for fear renewed.

And once again, it goes to show just how much we can learn from another living creature in this realm. And we owe a debt of gratitude to all the kingdoms here who serve us quietly, with gracious cheer.

Embrace the goodness deep within, and share it with a friend, a stranger on the street, an enemy, to the end.
